The Gauls say that
the beautiful Thetis (who they name Friga) became very jealous as,
when she got married, Venus (who they call Siofne) won the apple
which was the supreme beauty award without even being put in competition
with the three goddesses.
Thetis decided then to get her revenge.
One day, when Venus was walking on the Gallic
coast and was looking for pearls and for shellfishes named handled-knife,
for her son Sifionne, a Triton stole her apple which was on a rock
and brought the apple to the goddess of the sea.
Thesis sowed the pips in the surroundings in order
to perpetrate the memory of her revenge and her triumph.
This is how the Gauls explain the numerous quantity of apple trees
growing on Norman soil and the singular beauty of the Norman girls.
